Thom Loomis Coaching Bio

I have been married to my wife Peggy for 36 years, we have three wonderful daughters, Amber, Stephanie and Brittany. All three girls have followed in their Dad’s footsteps and become coaches. Amber is a Spanish Teacher at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach Virginia. She has served as a Track and Cross Country Coach at Hillsborough and Marion Elgin High Schools. Stephanie coached JV softball at Bowling Green HS and is currently coaching Jr High Girls Basketball at Arcadia HS. Brittany is an Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at FHS and has also served as a volunteer Assistant Softball Coach at Arcadia and the JV Softball Coach at Genoa HS.

My coaching career started as a volunteer assistant basketball coach at Fostoria HS in 1983. Under Varsity Basketball Coach, Steve Russell. I was hired as the freshman basketball coach in 1984, then served as a Varsity Assistant and JV Coach through the 1987-88 season, under Coach Russell and then Varsity Coach Jim Rutter. In 1988-89 became the Boys Varsity Basketball Coach at Bettsville High School for 6 seasons. While at Bettsville I was also the Boys & Girls Varsity Cross Country Coach earning Boys MAL Coach of the year in 1992. In addition I served 8 years as the Athletic Director, High School Principal (2 years), Head Track Coach, Assistant Softball and Assistant Baseball Coach.

In 1996-1997 I returned to Fostoria as a teacher and JV Boys Basketball and JV Baseball Coach. Due to a levy failure in May of 1997 my job was eliminated due to a Reduction in Force. I then went back into school administration and served as principal at Swanton HS, Arcadia HS and Gibsonburg HS. While at Arcadia, I was the Girls Jr. High Basketball Coach for 3 years and at Gibsonburg I was an assistant softball coach and a volunteer assistant basketball coach.

I retired in 2016 and returned to coaching at Fostoria HS as the Boys JV Basketball Coach and guided the Redmen JV’s to a 17-5 season and an NBC Championship. The following year I achieved my dream of becoming the Boys Varsity Basketball Coach and I am starting my 5th year in this capacity. We have turned the program around ang gone 27-19 the past two years.

I am a member of the Ohio Basketball Coaches Association and a Division 2 representative for the District 7 Caches Association.

In the Fall of 2021 I returned to the classroom at FHS teaching PLP/A+ and am also now serving as the Jr. High Athletic Director. I am a proud member of the FHS Alumni group, and fight strongly to promote our school and our community.
